Fukushima: The Untouchable Eco-Apocalypse No One Is Talking About

The media, politicians and the world at large seem to be engaging in extreme denial regarding Fukushima. A survey of mainstream media coverage of the fallout of this event reveals the trend of covering this story as a human interest affair, not as the immediate threat it truly is.

The effects on nature are already being seen, yet even among the environmentalist factions of media, there is strong denial of the damage already done and of what is to come as the crisis approaches its sixth year. Some 300 tons of radioactive water are dumped into the Pacific Ocean each day, and signs are showing that this catastrophe is gravely affecting sea-life and wildlife in and around the Pacific.

Corporate 'Biopiracy' in Peru Threatens Indigenous Knowledge

Foreign corporations have filed over 11,000 patents for a staggering 4,400 Peruvian plant products.

The production and consumption of natural Andean and Amazonian ancestral products in Peru is threatened by the "biopiracy" of foreign companies who have filed over 11,690 patents for the domestic produce of the region, effectively poaching the natural heritage of the country. The resources are said to be rich in nutrients and vitamins and range from those with anti-aging properties to those that act as natural aphrodisiacs.

700,000 Petition the US Government to Stop Monsanto-Bayer Merger

Hundreds of thousands have signed petitions calling on the U.S. Department of Justice and elected officials to block three proposed mega-mergers of chemical and biotech behemoths: Bayer-Monsanto, Dow-Dupont, and ChemChina-Syngenta.

“The continuing consolidation of seed and pesticide companies essentially creates a monopoly of toxicity in control of the world’s seed market and food supply. These agrichemical giants threaten the availability and genetic diversity of seeds that are critical to a sustainable food system and to our ability to respond to the impacts of climate change,” Andrew Kimbrell, executive director of Center for Food Safety, said Tuesday.

Why Bayer's massive deal to buy Monsanto is so worrisome

Monsanto. It’s hard to even say the name without triggering a fierce reaction. The company has long been the public face of GMOs, thanks in part to the sheer dominance of its corn, soy, cotton, and other crops engineered to be resistant to the herbicide Roundup.

And pretty soon, Monsanto may no longer exist. At least not in its current form.

On Wednesday, the German chemical conglomerate Bayer offered to buy up Monsanto for $56 billion, in what could prove to be the largest corporate merger of the year. Monsanto has accepted the bid. And if the deal is approved by regulators — which is still an open question — the new company would become the largest agribusiness on the planet, selling 29 percent of the world’s seeds and 24 percent of its pesticides.

1080 Poison Dropped Directly into Coromandel Water Supplies

This drop of 1080 occurred late last year. As those in the video illustrate, they were not warned to cease drawing drinking water from the streams. In addition young kids interviewed saw baits on seats, public walkways and in the water. None of this was cleaned up afterwards by DOC. Locals also cited the known death historically of 8 local dogs. Concerned people who enquired of DOC were told they have nothing to worry about and yet, the poison manufacturer’s warning advises against baits entering any body of water. It is ‘harmful to aquatic organisms’.

Picky Eaters — The Shocking Story of Wasted Food in the US

Millions of American families struggle to put food on the table every day. At the same time, nearly half of all the fruits and vegetables grown in the US ends up in landfills where they rot — releasing large amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas that traps over 20 times the heat that CO₂ does.

Why are they rejected? It’s about money. If a vegetable is the wrong size, wrong shape, wrong color, wrong whatever, it won’t get the best price — so out it goes.

Corrupt Liar Prime Minister John Key Announces Ambitious Plan to Make New Zealand Predator Free by 2050

This is a policy from this government that I can actually support. This is a first for me in 9 years. I would suggest that John Key and his gang of criminal thugs in parliament eliminate themselves to begin with. Then we need to eliminate the psychopaths in industry and corporations. Following that the country can then move onto killing all the possums, rats and stoats. This place could be an oasis in a civilisation that is burning to the ground.

Prime Minister John Key has today announced the Government has adopted the goal of New Zealand becoming Predator Free by 2050.

“While once the greatest threat to our native wildlife was poaching and deforestation it is now introduced predators,” Mr Key says.
