Israeli soldier gives 74-year-old Palestinian woman water then shoots her in the head

During the Israeli bombardment and shelling of the Gaza Strip last summer, an Israeli soldier approached a 74-year-old Palestinian woman Ghalya Abu-Rida to give her a sip of water. He gave her the water, took a photo with her and then he shot her in the head from a distance of one metre. He then watched as she bled to death, the Palestine Information Centre reported.

This is how Ahmad Qdeh, a journalist in Al-Aqsa TV, described the scene that he witnessed during the latest Israeli aggression. The spokesman of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, shared the photo of an Israeli soldier holding the water bottle and helping the old woman drink as an example of the "humanity" of the Israeli army towards the civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Sweden to grant $200 million to Palestine

Sweden is set to give Palestine up to 1.5 billion kronor ($200 million) in aid, Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom has announced, hours after it became the first European Union country to officially recognize Palestine as a state.

Wallstrom said in a statement on Thursday that Palestine fulfilled the criteria for recognition as a state in international law despite it not having fixed borders, and would receive between 500 million kronor ($68 million) and 1.5 billion kronor under a five-year assistance plan.

Is Israel a U.S. Ally? The Staggering Cost of Israel to Americans

IS Israel a U.S. Ally? Phillip Giraldi, Former CIA Officer, weighs in.

Israel has corrupted the U.S. Congress. The U.S. General Accounting Office has concluded that Israel “conducts the most aggressive espionage operation against the United States of any US ally.” Israel’s head of government publicly humiliates the U.S. President, its government ministers insult and ridicule John Kerry, and its intelligence officers actually provide alarmist and inaccurate private briefings for American Senators on Capitol Hill. No other country interferes in our system in as many ways as Israel.

Israel tech site paying “interns” to covertly plant stories in social media

Israel21c is part of propaganda efforts aimed to improve Israel’s image and distract from Israel’s occupation, abuse and massacres of Palestinians. An ad for the position (published in full below) was contained in an email obtained by The Electronic Intifada. It stipulates that each “ambassador” must engage in “significant conversations” online, making a note of them and reporting back to Israel21c staff.

Posing as a student interested in this internship, The Electronic Intifada spoke over the phone to a publicist responsible for recruitment.

South Korea likely to acquire Iron Dome system from Israel

The South Korean Government is reportedly interested in the acquisition of an Iron Dome anti-missile defence system from Israel in an effort to bolster protection against rockets launched from North Korea.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems CEO Yedidia Yaari was quoted by Israel’s Army Radio as saying that Iron Dome’s performance in the ongoing Gaza war had fuelled foreign interest in its procurement, including by South Korea.

Yaari said: “It is very worried not only about rockets, but other things as well; you can certainly include them in the club of interested countries.”

A new study finds that post-traumatic stress disorder is rampant among teenagers in Gaza

When we hear about post-traumatic stress disorder and war, it generally concerns soldiers who’ve been emotionally damaged by the horrors of combat. But what about civilians living in conflict zones? How does war impact them psychologically?

To find out, a group of researchers studied teenagers in Gaza, where more than 1,800 people have died and 33,000 have lost their homes over the past couple of months as a result of the fighting between Hamas and Israel. Perhaps not surprisingly, they found that the teens are just as likely to suffer from PTSD as any combat soldier.

Israeli lives are inherently more valuable than Palestinian lives

Glenn Greenwald lambasted the U.S. government's approach to the Gaza conflict in an article published Monday by The Intercept, but his criticism extends to America's media practices -- for which he gives U.S. journalists a failing grade.

"There's no question that the way that the American media covers this conflict is based on the principle that Israeli lives are just inherently more valuable than Palestinian lives," he told HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill in an interview Monday. "It takes probably 50 Palestinians being killed to get anywhere near the attention of, say, an elderly Israeli woman being frightened in her home and having some kind of a medical problem because of the trauma."
