New Zealands Capital City Wellington Sustained More Damage During Mag 7.8 Quake Than Expected

The city council was quick to open the CBD a day later. I was in there all day today and there were engineers in hard hats with clip boards all over the place and more and more buildings are being flagged as at risk of collapse.

I have to wonder how safe I am going to be in there tomorrow. It is looking grim and many more parts of the city are being cordoned off. There was a decent mag 5 aftershock this morning while myself and nearly 2000 others were attending a conference at the Michael Fowler Centre. Nobody panicked but it was a sizeable shake.

I believe we are in for a big aftershock around 6.9-7+ in the next few weeks. If it hits in the daytime it could be deadly for everyone in the city just like the second quake in Christchurch was years ago.

I hope it isn't any-time tomorrow.
