Petition to stop Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ)

A petition aimed at stopping the Government from signing a commitment to emissions reductions was launched by members of the farming sector last night.

Among the first to sign were Gisborne Federated Farmers president Hamish Cave, Waikohu councillor Roger Haisman, and Rongowhakaata kaumatua and farmer Stan Pardoe, who is worried about the impact on Maori as well as farmers.

The petition was spearheaded by Matawai farmers Neil and Esther Henderson, who say even a 15 percent reduction on 1990 C02 emissions will take $6 billion a year out of New Zealand’s economy and kill its productive sector.
